Aspen Institute and Cornell Release Gig Economy Data Hub

The Aspen Institute Future of Work Initiative and Cornell University's ILR School recently launched the Gig Economy Data Hub, which Gig economy data hubis a curated online repository of studies, data and information on independent work and the gig economy.

The goal of the Data Hub is to provide accessible and comprehensive information about the scope and nature of independent work and the gig economy.

Key quote from their announcement blog post:

The Data Hub seeks to consolidate, communicate, and clarify available data sources, including public, private, and academic research. It provides answers to basic questions about the size and makeup of the independent workforce, and also provides a database of available studies, equipped with search features and filters that help users find the best data for the questions they have. Users can also find links to published reports and publicly available datasets to engage in further research. The Data Hub is designed for a wide range of users interested in the gig economy, whether they are looking for a quick answer or in-depth analysis.

There’s obviously a lot of confusion around the size and scope of the gig economy. Most of this due to the various gig economy studies using different definitions and study methodologies.

The Data Hub cuts through this confusion by providing, in one place, descriptions of gig studies including key definitions and methodologies.

We excited by the release of the Gig Economy Data Hub.

In addition to being a valuable source of information for policy makers, we think it will quickly become a key resource for anyone interested in learning about independent work, the gig economy and the future of work.
